JUDICIAL CANDIDATES & UPCOMING ELECTIONS
On November 3, 2019 (Election Day), Kentucky voters will have the opportunity to elect a new judge to the Kentucky Supreme Court, representing the state’s 1st Judicial District. The candidates are State Senator Whitney Westerfield and Judge Christopher Shea Nickell. All registered voters in the 1st Judicial District will have the opportunity to vote in the Kentucky Supreme Court race.
Candidate for Kentucky Supreme Court: Whitney Westerfield
First elected to the Kentucky State Senate in 2012 as a representative to the citizens of Christian, Todd and Logan counties in Western Kentucky.
Currently serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and as a member of the Capital Planning Advisory Board, Tobacco Fund Settlement Oversight, Agriculture, Natural Resources & Energy, Veterans/Military Affairs/Public Protection and the Program Review & Investigations Committees in the State Senate.
Served over five years as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky in 2003 and his law degree from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2006.

Candidate for Kentucky Supreme Court: Christopher Shea Nickell
Serving his twelfth year as a judge on the Kentucky Court of Appeals and was recently elected Chief Judge Pro Tem by his fellow judges.
Served seven years as chairperson of the Curt’s personnel committee and currently serves on the Judicial Compensation Commission.
Practiced law for 22 years prior to becoming an appellate judge, serving as a trial and appellate attorney, prosecutor and public defender.
Received his undergraduate degree from DePauw University in 1981 and his law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1984.
